Opportunity is Knocking, Volunteer Today!
“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” - Milton Berle
Capital District Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit ecumenical Christian Organization that is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing. Where we see inadequate housing, we also see opportunity; an opportunity to mend Albany’s housing problem. Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer based organization so, naturally, not everyone that volunteers knows how to build things. Thankfully, this never seems to be a problem because even when a piece of wood is too short or a door doesn’t fit, we always find a way to fix it! Our site supervisors, Frank and Al, can salvage just about anything with their innovative ideas and years of experience. However, experience is not a prerequisite, we want and need as many volunteers as possible!
Last week we had a bunch of volunteers from local colleges, including; Sienna College, The College of Saint Rose, Hudson Valley Community College, and SUNY Albany. We painted all of the trims, installed most of the remaining vinyl siding, insulated the second to last house, cut and installed firewall barriers, and put in furring strips. It’s really amazing how much work can be accomplished with a little help! If you would like to volunteer, click here!
