Are you ready to apply for a Habitat home? We are here to help guide you every step of the way, and if we can’t help your current situation, we will refer you to an agency or organization that can.

Step 1:  Complete our eligibility questionnaire

The first step toward purchasing a Habitat home is to complete our eligibility questionnaire. You can complete the questionnaire online or in person at the Habitat office.

Option 1. Complete the questionnaire online.

Click here to complete our eligibility questionnaire online to determine whether you may be eligible to apply for a Habitat home. A member of our Homeowner Services department will be in touch with you within 5 business days to discuss your questionnaire and the next steps. At that point, you may also schedule an in-person meeting to discuss your situation further.

Option 2. Schedule an appointment to complete the questionnaire at Habitat’s office.

Call our Homeowner Services department, to set up a time to come to our office and see whether or not you are eligible to apply for a Habitat home. Once you complete your questionnaire, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your answers and the next steps.

Step 2:  Submit a full application

If we determine that you are eligible to apply for a home at this time, our Homeowner Services department will provide you with a full application to complete. You will have three weeks to return it to our office along with the required documentation. Once we review your application, we will determine whether or not you qualify for one of our mortgage loan products. If you do, we will help you find the right housing product and loan to fit your situation, and we will help you coordinate with our banking partners. All Habitat homebuyers go through rigorous screening including credit and background checks, employment verification, landlord references and a home visit.

If you aren’t eligible at this time

Don’t worry! We are here to help you. Our Homeowner Services department will help identify the obstacles in your path to becoming a Habitat homeowner, and we will refer to you agencies and organizations that can help you resolve those issues. Our community partners are available to help you repair your credit, organize your finances and resolve your emergency housing situations. Once those obstacles are removed, you are welcome to come back and apply!

We are currently building new homes in Albany’s Sheridan Hollow neighborhood and restoring existing homes in both Albany and Troy.
