Support Black-led organizations this giving season
Since 2012, generous people have come together across the world every Tuesday after Thanksgiving on what is known as Giving Tuesday to kick off the giving season. This global day of giving has done a lot of good! And we are so grateful the support from people like you the past several years on Giving Tuesday.
This year, we are asking you to center your Giving Tuesday support on Black-led, local efforts. It is a fact that Black-led organizations receive less support than white-led organizations; this is called “the giving gap.” As the season of giving begins, we encourage you to center your support on the missions and works of our community’s numerous Black leaders. And we hope you discover new missions to continue to support alongside ours; it takes all of us, together to build a world where everyone has a safe place to call home.
Tip: In general, it is more effective to pick one or two causes to support with larger gifts, rather than spreading your support thinly over several organizations. Consider also signing up for automatic monthly giving! Supporting Black-led nonprofits cannot be just a trend.

African American Cultural Center of the Capital Region is a nonprofit organization committed to educating, enriching, and empowering residents of the Capital Region through a variety of educational, cultural and performing arts, programs, activities, and exhibits that promote awareness and raise the collective consciousness of all ethnicities to the rich and vibrant history, contribution, and culture of African Americans. The Center seeks to strengthen communities by fostering unity, self-determination, cooperative economics, collective work, and creativity.

The Center for Law and Justice aims to eliminate the gap between law and justice by creating an equitable criminal justice system which values all human life and acknowledges community members as partners in public safety. The center seeks to achieve this goal through amplifying the voices of marginalized people and communities, while educating and empowering those same communities to demand an end to mass criminalization, mass incarceration, and systemic oppression.
Free Food Fridge Albany makes fresh foods, fruits, produce, low-intervention foods, ready-to-eat meals (and more) accessible to all. We serve as an anonymous & direct food access point to food insecure neighborhoods, systemically oppressed and marginalized neighborhoods, as well as, and communities that hold the global majority.
Grand Street Community Arts believes that art in its many forms provides a positive and proactive way for one to express themselves. We also know that art can have a powerful message that can inspire change in our communities and around the country. Art is not defined by the color of your skin, where you come from, or who you know and we believe that everyone should be able to express themselves through an art form of their choice without the judgement of others. Dedicated volunteer staff continue to work hard to ensure that all have a voice in our community and the opportunity to express themselves through the arts.
In Our Own Voices’s mission is to work for and ensure the physical, mental, spiritual, political, cultural and economic survival and growth of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people of color communities.
We Seek to...
Develop the leadership of LGBT POC.
Strengthen the voices of LGBT POC in order to effectively communicate our perspectives within the larger community.
Increase our capacity for combating oppression and marginalization.
Youth FX primarily works with young people of color who reside in the South End, Arbor Hill and West Hill neighborhoods of Albany, NY, areas that have been historically under served and in need of meaningful opportunities for training and engagement in new digital media technology. The skills they learn not only enable them to be more creative and express their ideas, but they are also valuable skills that are in high demand in today’s technology based world. Youth FX participants engage in their communities by creating documentary and short fiction films that reflect their understanding and vision of the world around them as well as their imagined futures.
